THE CATTLE AND THE EGRET
To each moment is a word to say,
Yet why pull till tomorrow what can be done today,
Whilst we all know tomorrow ceaselessly comes
And a procrastinator’s regrets endlessly sums.
Experience is the best teacher,
And ‘tis easy to be wise after the event,
Laden with ceaseless bewail and need to repent,
Like of a fair lady lost by a faint heart.
Heed my words if you may,
The goddess of Fortune favours only the bold,
And rewards guided spontaneity in every way,
While inaction and quiescence turn potentials to mold.
So set daily for thineself specific target,
That from your labour you seek to get,
For like the cattle and its egrets,
Nothing accompanies the sluggard but regrets.
