Once Upon a Heartbreak

I guess it was just a misunderstanding.
A lack of communication on both ends.
My love for you was as deep as the ocean,
And I mistakenly expected the same from you.
What I didn't realize was that you are not the beautiful vast blue abyss I thought I was so easily falling into.
And when the tide comes and pulls you away from me, you do not return with the waves.
Suddenly I found myself futilely searching for you,
Lost in a sea I no longer recognized.
It was never you.
Because when I reached for your hand to pull me from the swirling waves, you were nowhere to be found.
I realized I was drowning, but not in your love...
In your animosity.
