Colored Pencil Accident - Whoops

What a mess I found! Somehow, water got into the cup I had a few of my colored pencils stored inside. There were only a few of them in the cup and I have no clue just how long they had been sitting in a few inches of water or even how the water got there in the first place! Yikes! Thankfully, I found it before much more damage had occured to the pencils!

There were three different brands of pencils that were damaged, Crayola, Staedtler Norris Club and Prismacolor Premiere. Amazingly, the Crayola pencils were barely damaged. The wood was not cracked on the barrel. All three brands had the lead inside expand and started popping outside the barrel. None of the Crayolas are pictured.

The Norris Club pencils were the least expensive and the most damaged! As you can see the green and lavender are the Norris Club pencils and the wood is cracked several inches down the barrel. The leads are surrounded by a white coating which squished out a bit.

My favorites, the Prismacolor Premiere were also cracked but not quite as bad. You can see the light peach pencil was sharpened side down in the cup and the water dissolved the lead and cracked the barrel a little bit.

Do NOT try this at home as soaking your pencils in water is a good way to ruin them! :)
