Quiet Error

I almost didn’t look at it again.
It was already submitted.

Everything had gone smoothly. No complaints. No questions.
For a while, I felt relieved.

Then something small caught my attention.
A line I couldn’t fully remember writing that way.

I opened it again.
Scrolled slowly.
At first, nothing. Everything looked normal. Familiar.

Then I saw it.
Just one part.
Not obvious. Not loud.
But wrong.
I paused.

For a moment, I considered closing it.
Pretending I hadn’t noticed.
It had already been accepted. Bringing it up now would only draw attention.
I sat there, staring at that line longer than I should have.

Then I fixed it.
Sent a follow-up. Short. Direct. No excuses.
The response didn’t come immediately.
When it did, it was brief.

But it changed everything that could have gone wrong.

Later, I thought about how easy it would have been to leave it as it was.
No one had seen it.
No one had complained.
It would have passed.

But not everything that passes is correct.
