Cisne de cuello negro - Cygnus melancoryphus

We can see it in the lagoons of our area, Mar del Plata, Argentina, although it is not very abundant. It is seen in pairs or flocks, sometimes huge. Nothing with great elegance, but to take flight you need to take impulse moving on the water a good distance. Fly with the neck stretched. It feeds on aquatic and invertebrate plants that it seeks to submerge under the water the head and the front of the body. When the pigeons are small, they are transported on the back of their parents, while they swim. In times of drought they disperse and can appear in any body of water. It lives fundamentally in bathed, lagoons and tajamares. You can also find it swimming in the sea, near the coast.

• Lo podemos ver en las lagunas de nuestra zona, Mar del Plata, Argentina, aunque no es muy abundante. Se lo ve en parejas o en bandadas, a veces enormes. Nada con suma elegancia, pero para levantar vuelo necesita tomar impulso desplazándose sobre el agua un buen trecho. Vuela con el cuello estirado. Se alimenta de plantas acuáticas y de invertebrados que busca sumergiendo bajo el agua la cabeza y la parte delantera del cuerpo. Cuando lo pichones son pequeños, son transportados sobre el lomo de sus padres, mientras nadan. En épocas de sequía se dispersan pudiendo aparecer en cualquier cuerpo de agua. Vive fundamentalmente en bañados, lagunas y tajamares. También se lo puede encontrar nadando en el mar, cerca de la costa.
