Empathy

Today I contemplated doing some volunteer work at the Humane Society. I always go through phases where I want to give back to the community and it usually involves helping animals in some way. I've been down this road before though. I was a volunteer for an animal shelter a few years ago and it was just too upsetting. I feel bad for all the animals and I want to save them all, then I feel anxiety and depression because I obviously can't adopt all the animals. I have too much empathy when it comes to animals. I currently take care of 18 cats. I pretty much already have an animal shelter in my own house lol. So anyway, I passed up the volunteer position, which ultimately just makes me sad in another way.
