Credibility is developed by keeping your promises. That means meeting deadlines, following through on commitments, and doing what you say you will do. Moreover, you should not make unrealistic promises.

When unavoidable conflicts and delays occur, immediately communicate the delay and identify a new due date or set of deliverables.

Be sure to carefully evaluate the impact of your commitment on others, who in turn may not be able to meet the deadline you set or the commitment you made. Blaming others for the failure does not build trust. Instead, it builds cynicism.
