The forgiveness of sins is one of the best gifts that God could have given us. I was burdened with many things in my heart, without knowing what they were, due to the bad things I had done. I would sometimes ask myself if God could ever forgive me. But in His word I learned that God's mercy is greater than my past. According to 1 John 1:9, we can ask God to forgive us our sins, and He will, because "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. I take this verse as a testament of hope that God will always accept the sincere repentance of anyone.

In topic review I knew that forgiveness is not a thing that we can earn by our good deeds. It is a gift of God, and a gift of our Lord Jesus Christ. In Ephesians 1:7 we read, "In whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace. This is teaching me that Jesus already paid for my sins. My duty is to repent, obey God and follow His will in life.

As I've lived this out in my life, I've seen God's forgiveness. At one point I did wrong things and I became guilty and embarrassed. I couldn't help but reflect on my shortcomings, and I felt unqualified to pray. But I did not run away from God – I prayed earnestly for His mercy. My peace grew gradually in my heart as I continued my reading and believing in His promises. I knew that I was being given a second chance in life and that God had forgiven me. This experience helped to build my faith and to know that God's love is true.

Another lesson I learned is that if God forgives me, then I should also forgive others. It is sometimes hard because of the pain, but Colossians 3:13 says, "Forgiving one another... just as Christ forgave you, so do you. The more I think about how much God forgives me, the more I am able to forgive those who have hurt me. Forgiveness is the way to the peace of the heart and to living in love.

This made me remember to never assume God's mercy. Forgiveness of sins is a priceless gift that should help me to live a holy and faithful life. I pray I will always have a humble heart that is able to repent rapidly when I err. I also pray that I will always be forgiving of others, because God always has been forgiving of me. I am so grateful to God for His forgiveness because if He didn't forgive me, I wouldn't be able to hope any longer for salvation or eternal life.
