Man VS Technology

I recently had a discussion with my better half @ray.luv.music about Skynet and the overall idea of technology taking over. We thought it would be nice to get the opinions of the Steem community.
The Man vs. Technology concept is far from new. We as a people have been contemplating this possibility and writing about it for some time; since technology was a thing really. We have multiple examples like "I, Robot", "The Matrix", "Terminator", and "Electric Dreams". I personally have had discussions with friends about creating something and we eventually go, " Oh crap, this could turn into Skynet real fast."
Have you ever accidentally created Skynet or similar in theory? Have you thought of a scenario that would lead to the rise of technology over mankind?
We also thought about how much we rely on technology today (which again is a common topic for discussion among people nowadays) and questioned if our further growing reliance on technology is possibly worse than an actual takeover by technology. Like in the case of "Wall-E" rather than something like "Terminator" or "I, Robot".
I think that a "Wall-E" scenario is far more likely, however the "I, Robot" scenario would be scarier to face.

Yes! absolutely! I think about these situations all the time and love discussing with people.
I agree that the Wall-E situation is much more plausible as well and I think that it will stem from humanity's need to constantly entertain itself. Relying more and more on tech to get more and more entertainment, on demand.
Check out a tv show called 'Caprica.' Its from the Battlestar Galactica universe and (among much else) shows the end game of virtual reality. People completely disengage from the real world whenever possible to live their virtual, much more entertaining life.
Oh, coincidentally... the place where I work already has a system called Skynet. Its always a good opportunity for a Terminator joke whenever we need to reference it :)

I don't know where you work, but I would reference it as much as possible I think. I only have my boss who talks about stuff like this with me at work. Which gets dangerous, we end up talking about something completely random and get no work done.
I have heard of 'Caprica' and have been meaning to watch it. This might give me the extra "umph" I need.
Just like most, I also fall victim to my own need for entertainment and instant gratification. I acknowledge it when I can and try to stem away from it when possible. I feel my time could be well spent doing something else, but I'm no stranger to this vice. That's part of the reason I find 'Wall-E' most reasonable, because I see how prominent it is in my own life already. Faster food, faster service, faster entertainment, faster sleep if I could...
There is the slight possibility of a peaceful coexistence however, humans don't have the best track record with coexistence. Ruling, powerful, top dog, we're in charge - Yeah - Coexisting - not so much.
I was shocked how much input I had on this subject! Normally I have nothing to say about subjects like this. You really do expand my mind!
I think sometimes we forget about the mad scientist who is trying to become immortal as impossible as it may seem. As humans, we seek out things that we should not become and find out that the power is too much to handle.
What I'm getting at is it would be completely naive if you think for one second that we are not trying to figure out how to put the human soul into a robot. I mean they spent many years trying to figure out what the human soul is and a lot of those topics just dropped off the face of the Earth. Shortly after all this talk about robot technology blew up and turned into a trend and we spent many years talking about that. Then some of the large topics on that went quiet.
But before I move on I want to point out some of the things about "Wall-E" I do agree that it is the most plausible outcome of the three that you have listed we have already slowly begun our descent into that. My point is, take the large factories that used to employ thousands upon millions of employees. 90% of those employees are no longer employed and machines have replaced their jobs they are cheaper and easier to maintain.
Back to the topic at hand. Now it's all about the VR AKA virtual reality. I think you're starting to get my point just one step closer to that mad scientist dream.

I agree it would be very naive to think we're not trying. I've thought about immortality via computer, but I'm at odds with myself on how I feel about immortality. Someone out there, multiple people are trying.
We often push boundaries and sometimes its good, sometimes we take it to far. However, I do believe the quest for knowledge should be unrelenting. It's a damned if you do damned if you don't dilemma in my opinion. We learned a lot after the creation of the atom bomb, but the cost was immeasurable.
I appreciate your input, I'd go one, but we had a lengthy discussion about all thid. You know we share very similar views. I also thought more on tje other thing you brought up. Building seems common and I have many other examples I wanted to talk to you about in person.
