My Wild Flower Patch
I have had a lot of work done to my garden and home over the last few years. By the time the work was finished what was my lawn looked like a building site. But last autumn I rotovated the who area, after clearing a mass of bricks and concrete. I planted most of the area with grass seed, but I decided to sow wild flowers into a small area to attract bees and other insects and bugs.
Areas of wildflowers have become increasingly rare in the UK. So I think providing a small area in our gardens is a way for providing food and habitat for our struggling wildlife. The main flowers that have appeared so far are beautiful blue cornflowers which seem much taller than I remember them being from when I grew them as a child.
Poppies have now started to appear along with other flowers including clover. I bought the seed as British wildflower seed, however I know some of the species that have appeared, such as some of the poppies and clover, aren't what I would normally expect to see in our countryside.
However, I think they make a beautiful addition to my garden and the bees and other bugs seem to like them, although they disappear whenever I try to photograph them!

Nice! I live next to a nature reserve and I have been clearing out invasive vegetation. It's interesting to watch what comes in its place
It will be interesting to see if my little effort spreads in my garden. Although I probably won't let them completely take over the garden.

I love your patch of wildflowers! And yes, the insects rarely cooperate for a photo session.
I seem to have very photo shy insects in my garden. 😅
Wow! This is truly an amazing picture! I can imagine how happy the bees are in your yard and what a help to our planet!
It's only a small area but if everyone who has a garden were to do the same thing it could make a great difference to our wildlife. I have noticed how few insects and bugs we get here in the UK these days. Only a few years ago my car windscreen would be covered in splattered insects and bugs this time of year, but now that isn't the case. The less bugs and insects the less food for birds, small mammals and less pollinators. I'm hoping that my little effort will be buzzing with the sound of insects and bugs. Even if I lose a few vegetables and cultivated flowers to them.
Tending too a wildflower garden is such a lovely thing to do for your local pollinators -- keep up the beautiful work!
