Downtown Walgett

Walgett is in the grip of a severe drought. This is a photograph of the street where I am currently residing in teacher accommodation. The accommodation is a very good example of its kind. Recently refurbished, it's been freshly painted inside, with a new kitchen and bathroom.

I believe the silos are for storing wheat. Walgett's main rural enterprises would include sheep, cattle, crops of cotton and wheat. According to Wikipedia, the prevailing climate is known as a "local steppe climate." It is hot in summer and mild in winter, with cool nights, due to the low humidity. The average annual temperature is 19.6 deg Celsius. The annual rainfall averages around 555 mm. It can be quite hot in summer, with a record high temperature of 49.1 degrees Celsius recorded on 3 January 2014.
