Classic Head ½ cent

The Classic Head half cent is also called the Capped Bust half cent. Coins in this time period had extremely low mintages so only one design was needed across all coins. The half cent, cent, half dime, dime, quarter and half dollar all had the same basic design on the obverse. In general, the half cents were produced the least. The coin is just a hair bigger than the modern quarter. Additionally, the coin is 100% copper so it was much more brittle than other coins that were an alloys of copper, nickel, silver, or gold.

My half cent is in fine+ condition worth about $60 with some minor scratches on it. This coin’s value is high to an extent because only 51,000 were made. It is the second most rare of this series and in general, a scarce coin.
