The "Trending" page is the portal to this site. It is the first thing people see when they visit, and instantly gives them an impression of the content available here.
PLEASE take that into consideration when making your votes.

I’ve started shelling out more 100% votes, focused just on the users with the highest quality photos. Instead of just giving every user that posts something a smaller vote. I’m sure eventually I can spread my vote out more again, but like you said the TRENDING page is what new users will typically judge the quality of this community by.
