The Grey silvia

My good friend bought this Silvia a few years back as a Naturally aspirated beginner drift car built in and important from japan, Its a great example of not taking car modification too far yet being perfectly good for its intended use.

I always enjoy when a car comes over with some history of a previous owner having fun with it. This car was clearly setup to teach a beginner the basic drifting techniques, With the low power NA engine it was clear the car was setup to initiate drifts with the brake pedal & weight transfer rather than using the handbrake - which seemed to have been intentionally setup to have no bite.

The engine

The car was imported with a naturally aspirated engine which further proved the point of what it was being used for in japan. However the sr20de was taken out and sold. A straight cam fully forged sr20det red top from another Silvia that Luke owned took its place, fitted with a GTX3076R turbo, external waste gate and full exhaust system tuned to 400hp.

If you own a Silvia you must know it can be quite difficult to get tyres to fit inside the car for a drift day, especially if you still have full interior. To solve this issue a Thule roof rack was fitted which did the trick - fit with care though, if you like your roof.

After arrival it only took about 10 minutes to take the Tyres and roof rack off - dont leave it on when drifting, it does not look good, friends dont let friends drift with roof racks on.

Apart from a top spec engine, it dont take much to get a car sliding and looking good, however you simply cant beat the reliability of a naturally aspirated engine.
