Machinists?

In my country manufacturing of firearms is regulated although I understand that this may not be the case in other countries. I would not wish to see anyone promoting any illegal activity, in respect of firearms or anything else, in this community. Having said that, gunsmiths and machinists are most welcome to post. A little common sense is required is all and I will moderate anything I deem inappropriate, including a reason why.

Perfect, thanks for the response! I am a machinist and firearms enthusiast. Sharing designs and build logs is not illegal where I live, but may be frowned upon elsewhere.

I will refrain from posting at this time, in consideration of members in other countries.

I'm a machinist as well, and I've even done some gunsmithing in the past. Hopefully, I'll get my shop reorganised soon, and I'll make a nice tour video of it. In the mean time, I'm trying to build a new shooting gallery, and I think I'll share the project here in The Pew rather than Build-It.

Personally, I'd love to see some gunsmithing posts, perhaps we can share some tips and tricks. I have some rather exotic equipment, so my capabilities may be different from yours.

I wouldn't call a Haas VF-3 exotic by any means, but capable of quite a bit. Is there a community that's more specific to this?

I don't have any CNC machines - yet, even though I used to program them for a living. What I mean by "exotic" is that my shop is full of antiques, and I also have things like a mini dividing head with 4NS collets. I've also used (but don't currently own) a rotary-head milling machine, one of the many specialised machines made obsolete by CNC.

I don't know if there's a community for machinists or manufacturing engineers, but I'll be sure to let you know if I find one.

I'll make sure to keep things legal, but I should inform you that, as I'm currently in the US, there are things I can do that are illegal most other countries. I'll add a disclaimer to "check your local laws before proceeding," or something like that, if I'm doing anything that's at all questionable.

That's a good idea, the disclaimer. I don't think it really matters as laws across countries vary in many instances, not just firearms...But it pays to be cautious. A disclaimer is a very good idea. ✅
