Bitcoin Mining has become a very much centralized enterprise where only people with the capability to be near a nearly-free energy source and maintain warehouses of the latest ASIC machines can actually keep up.

It got to a point where ASIC miner manufacturers gave up selling their hardware and just go on an arms race with each other to make the fastest, largest, most numerous miners as much as they can just so they still make enough money to breakeven.
