Welcome to HIVE. A great way to start your adventure is to write a post with the tag #introduceyourself .

A good introduction post will have a picture or two along with some information about yourself and what you hope to achieve on the platform.

HIVE gives supplemental rewards on Hive-Engine. I have more than 25 WINEX in my account. The command !WINE should add 0.1 WINEX to your account.

The HIVE ecosystem has multiple web sites called HIVE Tribes. The tribes were designed to promote different types of content. The most famous tribe is LEO Finance which is for discussions about cryptocurrency. Waivio has an innovative interface.

CreativeCoin was designed to promote art works. STEM Geeks is a tribe for posts about Science, Technology and Education.

You might study the different tribes and figure out which is best for your style of content as it is often easier to earn the supplemental rewards than HIVE rewards.

Did you read a post or a few words?

Yes @brittandjosie . I read the first post. The first post had a single line.

Writing one post with a single line is usually an indication that the new user is trying to figure out how the platform works.

The one line post had the word "open genie," which I took to mean the user is interested in development. The post used the tag #javascript .

Oh, this is probably someone interested in the tech side of life. People who program in JavaScript usually like technical details.

It is customary to begin accounts with a post using the tag #introduceyourself.

Most new users don't know that!

I decided to give the user a WINE.

A person new to the platform may not know about HIVE Engine.

So, I added link to HIVE Engine.

I've encountered dozens of users who did not know about HIVE Engine until several months into the HIVE journey.

HIVE engine is a second level block chain with numerous interfaces to HIVE.

Since I mentioned HE, I thought I would introduce the tribes.

I've encountered dozen of new users who did not know about the tribes.

BTW: I've noticed through the years that people who write their #introduceyourself post on a tribe site tend to get more user engagement than those who write the post on hive.blog.

I hope that the user actually starts writing posts.

@brittandjosie , I know that you don't like me. I really don't care. I spent about 20 minutes writing a reply with links that the new user interested in Javascript could use to learn about the HIVE ecosystem.

Do you know why I did it?

I wrote about the Tribes and the #IntroduceYourself tradition because I sincerely hope the user learns about these.

I also thought about adding a paragraph about HiveKeychain.

FWIW: HIVE uses a system of keys for user authentication. The keys are important. If you lose your keys; you will lose access to your account and any money in your account.

People who know your keys can steal the money in an account. So, it is best to keep the keys stored offline in a secret place.

One should avoid sharing their keys with web sites.

But if people keep their keys hidden, how do they access their account?

HIVEsigner and (Hive Keychain](https://hive-keychain.com/) are tools to help users maintain their keys.

The ideas is that we will give our keys to these programs. These programs will then use encrypted versions of the keys for user authentication.

HIVESigner is a web site that implements the OAUTH protocol. HIVE Keychain is a Browser Helper Object that does the same thing.

It is good practice to set up both authentication systems. HIVE signer will ask for your user name and keys. HIVE signer will ask for a short memorable password.

HIVE Keychain will ask that you install the BHO. Again it will ask for your user names and keys. Again it will ask for a short password.

There is a third system developed for smartphones ... which I am not currently using.

I really hope that @kristiel has a fun HIVE journey. Both HIVE and HE were optimized for Node.JS developers.
