Dead Tree

I just learned that a standing dead tree is called a snag, I thought it was just called dead tree or deadwood, I guess we learn everyday.

Dead or dying trees are of high value in forestry and conservation because they act as homes for lots and lots of wildlife species like birds, squirrels, bats, bees, beetles, ants, moss and fungi.

For example, woodpeckers nest in dead trunks, insects feed on decaying wood, and many small animals use the holes on these trees for shelter. Even after a tree dies, it continues to support an entire ecosystem which is great!
