Why Are Some Well Learned and Educated People Ignorant of The Bible?

Truth be told, it is not easy to understand the Bible. Just as the opening statement of Brother Eli Soriano

The understanding of the Bible is not given to everyone.

The Bible is not a common literature. It is the inspired Word of God, as we believe it is. That fact alone is enough to make people shy away from the Bible, or try to distort its content or trivialize its context so it doesn't carry the gravity of God's integrity.

Paul the Apostle tells us in 2 Corinthians 3vs 18 that when we look into the Word of God which is our “perfect law of liberty” we are more like beholding our faces as in a mirror. The Word of God reflects to us the image we carry, whether it is of the Lord or otherwise. It exposes our heart and intent. The Bible holds us accountable for what we believe. It is an avoidance of self-examination that causes many to shy away from the Bible. That is why many will continue to be ignorant of God's Word irrespective of educationional status.

Also, reading the Bible also doesn't guarantee that we would have a deep understanding. That is why we need to study – do due diligence – to show ourselves “approved” in order to be able to “rightly divide the word of truth”.

To cap it all, it takes the Holy Spirit to reveal the enclosed Word of God to us because

The understanding of the Bible is a God given gift to men.

Not to carnal minded men but those who walk in the Spirit.
