Digging up Memories from the Cobwebs of my Mind - SB-Chronicles #40
Spur-of-the-moment, off-the-beaten-tracks jaunts with our best friends always used to turn into the best surprises, fabulous adventures, just driving where the car's nose leads us. A quick phone call and we're all set to go. We were all in retirement and could take time out when we had a bee in our bonnets, and there were no big changeovers at our B&B, plus our friends had no deadlines for one of their art projects.
Coastal destinations often turned into a couple of days for a quick breakaway, like way down south, just past Port Edward, before hitting the rugged Wild Coast.

Inland or coastal was always the debate, fortunately all of us enjoy both.
Blueberry Cafe is an experience like no other, and was one of our biggest surprises. A long drive, but finding a specialty coffee shop with serene mountain views, plus quaint loos with a view, and delicious food straight from the farm from breakfast till dinner-time in the KZN Midlands was an absolute treat. Needless to say, we took that route more than once.

We also enjoyed many stays in the beautiful Drakensberg, choosing the central Berg where we went for tranquil hikes and also enjoyed the local fare on offer.

Other special times were when our kids were busy growing up; following them from one sports field to another, watching them grow into young men, were precious times in our lives.

This has been my response to last week's prompt #40: Do you wish you could return to moments from your past again? It would be nice to read your response!

While I am truly happy to be embracing a new kind of life in 2026, I would truly love to relive these special moments from that post-retirement period in hubby and my life again! I know the world is in a mess right now, and my darling man is here no more, but we should not give up on our dreams, and remember those special moments in our lives once more!

SO it is really true that friends are also a treasure. you are blessed to have your friends and just a phone call you all go on a drive to nowhere where the cars goes. I love this kind of life when we retire too. Thanks for sharing this ride to us and be safe.
Thank you very much!
You are very welcome.
Nostalgic drives like these matter
