Olumo Rock is a massive granite mountain and historic tourist site located in the heart of Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria.

Natural Fortress: The Egba people used the rock as a safe hiding place and strategic lookout during inter-tribal wars in the 19th century.

Name Meaning: The name "Olumo" combines "Olu" (god or deity) and "Mo" (moulded), meaning "created by God".City Foundation: The name of the city, Abeokuta, means "under the rock," originating from the settlement that grew around the mountain.

Visiting the Site

Height: The peak stands about 137 meters (449 feet) above sea level, offering wide views of the city.

The Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), led by its National Chairman, Alhaji Mogaji Ibraheem Olaniyan, commemorated its 42nd anniversary with a visit to Olumo Rock, where a touching act of compassion reflected the essence of the PCRC Safe School Initiative.

After an 11-year-old boy who had just completed primary school impressed members by taking their group photograph, the Ogun State Police PPRO, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, discovered that the child could not continue his education due to financial hardship and immediately offered to sponsor his education.

The initiative received the full backing of the PCRC National Chairman, Alhaji Mogaji Ibraheem Olaniyan; Zone 2 Chairman, Ven. Samson Kunle Popoola (SKP); Ogun State Chairman, Comrade Abdullahi Lawal; Vice Chairman, Hon. Taiwo Akinlabi; and other PCRC executives, who made instant financial contributions and pledged continued support to secure the boy’s future.

The gesture reinforces the PCRC’s commitment to its Safe School Initiative, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to learn and succeed.
