I Know It


The road is teary with rainfall
and the thought of us
gathers around my shoulder

I have driven off the city workers
and pushed away
the tall wood cabinet

I can still remember
the very early morning
before the beetle held us up
and the bat fell from the sky
When vapor swarmed the beach
and the swimming animals
recognized me on the bank

It's going to be like that again
Like that morning, I know it
Unless the statue moves
and you succumb to the sound
of a passing taxi
or I am stabbed in the kidney

It's going to be like that morning again
