Hive Open Mic Challenge 149. You are my sunshine - violin & piano duo.

Hallo dearest Open Mic Comunity

Gosh, it's been a while since posting and I am so happy and excited to be back.
When I receive the weekly Open Mic theme I always go with the very first song that pops up in my head. One of my life motto's- stick with your first choice!
This week's theme is beautiful and positive and the first melody I started singing was "You are my sunshine"
So, that's what I recorded with my keyboard and violin.

I think most of us has a childhood memory of our mother's singing this beautiful lullaby to us and I always thought it's an uplifting, comforting song. Reading through the entire songs lyrics (for the first time to be honest) I was surprised to read the very sad second verse.

"The other night, dear
As I lay sleeping
I dreamed I held you
In my arms
When I awoke, dear
I was mistaken
So I hung my head and I cried"

Now I understand why we only know the first verse...
All of a sudden this beautiful melody became almost haunted.

I hope you enjoy my cover, please let me know what you think.

Lyrics:
You are my sunshine
My only sunshine
You make me happy
When skies are gray
You'll never know, dear
How much I love you
Please don't take
My sunshine away

The other night, dear
As I lay sleeping
I dreamed I held you
In my arms
When I awoke, dear
I was mistaken
So I hung my head and I cried

You are my sunshine
My only sunshine
You make me happy
When skies are gray
You'll never know, dear
How much I love you
Please don't take
My sunshine away
