[ESP/ENG] Mi derecho a elegir / My right to choose | Freewrite challenge

--- ### ENGLISH ---

Sometimes we think that maturity comes all at once with age or when we accumulate responsibilities, but the reality is different: maturity begins on the exact day you understand that the direction of your life depends solely on the decisions you dare to make. For years, I got used to seeking the approval of others before taking any step. I allowed the opinions, expectations, and even the fears of those around me to weigh much more than my own intuition, convinced that giving in was always the fastest and cleanest way to keep the peace.

The great danger of living while trying to please everyone else is that, without realizing it, you gradually become a secondary spectator of your own existence. You wake up every morning to fulfill a script you didn't write, designing a routine based on what others consider right or safe. Until a moment comes when you look in the mirror and ask yourself when exactly you stopped listening to yourself.

That turning point doesn't usually come with a dramatic event, but rather with a seemingly simple moment: in my case, it was an opportunity that everyone around me advised against, but that lit up my eyes and made sense to me. I listened to the same well-intentioned advice as always, full of warnings about the risk of making a mistake. However, this time I felt a different certainty in my chest. I understood that stumbling and making mistakes on your own teaches a thousand times more than succeeding by blindly following someone else's orders.

That day, I fully embraced my right to choose with all its consequences. I understood that taking the reins doesn't guarantee that the path will be easy or error-free, but it does ensure that every step belongs to you. Choosing my own destiny—with its successes, its falls, and its lessons—has been the most valuable act of freedom in my life. Because at the end of the day, making decisions isn't about always being right, but about making sure you are the true author of your story.
