Genus Physomerus

This is a type of beetle—often found resting on foliage—that possesses a truly unique body shape; it looks somewhat menacing, resembling a horned beetle. These insects are abundant in my area, and their presence is a cause for concern for many people, especially farmers. They are considered pests and enemies to farmers because they feed on various types of leaves and damage fruit crops. Farmers employ numerous methods to control their population, one of which is spraying them with pesticides.

This particular insect is brownish-black in color; however, a unique feature appears when it flies: an orange hue becomes visible beneath its wing covers—though this color is only revealed when the insect spreads its wings wide. It also possesses a pair of large hind legs; while I am unsure of their specific function, we can draw a parallel to grasshoppers, which also have large hind legs that they frequently use for jumping.

I personally managed to find this particular insect in my own cocoa plantation. I immediately tried to photograph it using a macro lens.
