Disney: Full Steam Ahead

There have been quite a few changes to the Disneyland Resort in the past 18 months. In fact there has been more activity in that time period then there has been in the past 15 years!

Most of the changes are due to the creation/facilitation of the new "Star Wars" land. Creating a new land doesn't happen often, and it is a huge undertaking! The last time Disneyland received a new land addition was in January of 1993, when Mickey's Toontown opened!

The excitement around "Star Wars" land is quite palpable. Crowds are expected to be of record setting sizes when it opens in 2019! However a creation of this magnitude doesn't come without a cost. To help facilitate these changes several rides were placed on a hiatus back in January 11, 2016.

Most of the attractions that were placed on hiatus were centered around the "Rivers of America". Tom Sawyer Island, Mark Twain Riverboat, Sailing Ship Columbia, and Fantasmic are some of the more iconic rides that were placed on hiatus. Perhaps the most iconic ride to suffer the impact though, was the Disneyland Railroad.

Well after 18 months the hiatus is coming to an end. Beginning with a fan favorite. On July 29, 2017 the Disneyland Railroad will reopen for operation! This time it will have a few secrets under its sleeve like a left hand turn.
