Electricity by Photosynthesis

Compared to other alternative power generation types, solar energy is much more clean. But is it clean enough?

Generally, semi-comductors are used as components of solar panels. These semi-conductors are really harmful for the environment and it takes so many years for these materials to vanish. In 2010, scientists in French made another way to generate electricity.

Biofuel Cells

As a result of photosynthesis process glucose and O2 are created. Special biofuel cells could use these products (glucose and oxygen) and generates electricity. A light bulb had illuminated by this fuel cell imposed cactus in an experiment. Scientists claims that 9 μW/cm2 electricity could be generated on a leaf of a cactus. But the amount of power generated from this method depends of light density.

Future

There are lots of problems we have about the environment. The need for electricity is boosting day by day. Our hunger to electricity seems remain and we definitely need a cleaner way for this. I think, this method mentioned here could spark future developments and much more clean power generation from our sun.
