I Finally Took the Omarchy Plunge

So I took the plunge after all.

I was going to wait until I had my "new" computer setup, but honestly, the videos did me in. All those people talking about Omarchy, both the good and the bad. I simply had to see things for myself.

My initial impressions are good. Not great, but good.

The thing is, and I say this with a little bit of shame, I'm not really the keyboard shortcut kind of guy. Yes, I use a few, but that's a far cry from how DHH wants you to use Omarchy.

Believe it or not, this whole OS is supposed to be for keyboard power users, and you could almost get away with not using a mouse at all.

Key word: almost.

That said, the thing I will give to DHH is that this thing is blazing fast.

I'm running it on a very unimpressive system, and it's flying. I've already begun adding a little agent to it, setting up a Sentry system, and installing some of my development tools, and so far, it's kicking Apple's butt big time.

I'm also trying to get used to using dual monitors.

Seems like an easy choice, an easy upgrade, right? But I've not quite worked out the workflows that fully take advantage of having two monitors just yet.

It makes no sense to mirror them, that's for sure. But ideally, I think they're only really great if you can think in workspaces, something my boomer ways are struggling to do.

In my defense, I started with a monochromatic terminal, and I've traveled a long way already.

Ha!

Anyways, I wanted to do this little follow-up post to encourage others, my computer-loving friends, to give this OS a go.

It might just be the year of the Linux desktop after all.

Oh, and I should say something else.

It took one minute and forty seconds for the whole thing to install.

As far as I can tell, that's insane.
