It was quite a shock when we returned to our home in Andalucía after spending six months in Vienna. We discovered that both the master bedroom and the guest bedroom had suffered from a water leak, leaving the ceilings covered with ugly traces of dried water stains.
We investigated the cause of the leakage and eventually discovered the culprit: birds had built their nests on top of the two drainage collection basins, blocking the rainwater from flowing down into the drainage pipes. With nowhere else to go, the accumulated rainwater eventually found its way through the tiny pores and cracks in the bedroom ceilings.
We hired the same man who had originally plastered the two rooms to restore the ceilings and walls to their former condition. But I still had one problem to deal with myself—the two headboards were covered with stubborn water stains and were beyond simple cleaning. They needed to be reupholstered. The guest bedroom was quite fine except for the water marks, and the bed canopy and headboard were spared from the damage.
**The original fabric on the two headboards was a lovely beige chenille.**
The next move would be to find a similar fabric. Then, I noticed a new fabric store while driving past to Malaga International Airport, so I decided to stop the car for a quick look and see what they had inside. It turned out to be quite a find! The store specializes in discontinued fabrics, all offered at wonderfully low, discounted prices. I spent some time looking through their selection and was delighted to find just the right fabric for my headboard project: a French Toile de Jouy fabric below.
So, I got to work. I stripped off the old covers and prepared the headboards for their makeover. Since I didn't have a proper worktable, I improvised and used the bed mattress as my working surface.
I brought the old sewing machine to Spain with me; with it I created a dozen projects for my Andalusian home, from curtains to quilts and pillows. I cut, pinned, and sewed the fabri to fit the headboard accordingly.

it does not touch the wall and eventually provides space to hang the inner curtain panel.**

**And now, the headboards are complete in a new fabric.**
The whole room makeover was done by me as a DIY project, from headboard to bed canopy... to pillows and window curtains. I hope you like it.😊
