Moáis

In a Chilean island belonging to the Easter Island Province in the Valparaíso Region. Located in the heart of Polynesia (Oceania) in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, it lies approximately 3,700 kilometers from Caldera—on the Chilean mainland which is the nearest inhabited point within the country. Amidst its natural landscape, this small Chilean island in the Pacific harbors one of history's great enigmas: The moai. These are colossal human-shaped sculptures; while only their heads and torsos are visible above ground, archaeological expeditions have confirmed that their bodies lie buried beneath the surface. The mystery as yet unsolved concerns how each statue reached its current location, given that when European explorers arrived on Easter Island in 1722, they reported that the Rapa Nui people possessed neither draft animals nor the wheel.
These large stone sculptures vary in features, expressions, sizes, shapes, materials, and locations characteristics that make them highly compelling and raise various questions regarding their construction, transport, meaning, and function, given that they are a significant icon and cultural legacy of Rapa Nui.
The more than nine hundred known stone moai carved by the ancient Rapa Nui people are distributed across the island.
Most were fashioned from the tuff of the Rano Raraku volcanic cone, where over four hundred moai remain in various stages of construction. These stone figures range from one to ten meters in height, and some weigh as much as 80 tons. Indigenous accounts have not helped to resolve the uncertainties surrounding them; according to legend, the moai represent ancestors and were capable of walking. In fact, their form was designed to facilitate walking: their prominent bellies added weight to the center, while their D-shaped bases allowed them to be rocked back and forth without toppling over.

Hmmmm......so interesting how the lower portion of the statue's bodies are below ground level! I wonder how or even why they are underground? With all the technology available today, it sometimes amazes me that we cannot replicate that which remains a mystery like these giants are.

Another human mystery.
Could these people have the same stone work technology as the early Egyptians had or helped by extraterrestrials from another world?
