Forsythia

Forsythia, a spring flowering shrub, may be a very easy crayon in God’s palette of plants to grow. It can grow in sun or bloom without much sun at all. It has few and seldom has pest problems, and it can be propagated easily.

Sometimes as ubiquitous as a lawn, Forsythia could feel more successful. The only problem with Forsythia perhaps is having too much success, and its pruning is forgiving — it can be renovated even by cutting it down close to the ground. Blooming yellow, it is planted sometimes so often that it can be seen for blocks and also seen blocks away.

As an easy plant with often so many blooms at such a pleasing time of year, Forsythia can unite sun and shade, and neighborhoods. We can only wonder who decided upon the colors of yellow paved lines, from which Forsythia juxtaposed in sight can, with also the changing spring light and temperatures (also in one’s car), foster a new awareness.
