When Public Polls Backfire

http://cdn.meme.am/instances/500x/60967684.jpg

So last year Britons participated in a public poll to name a research vessel. Guess what they named it? Boaty McBoatface. Yup! I laughed my ass off when that happened. Welp…looks like those pesky kids are at it again folks. Swedish rail operator MTR Express invited people to name their new train. Wanna know what their chosen name is?

Trainy McTrainface!

Seriously I mean you can't even make this stuff up. This is so great because when you leave it up to the people, well the internet…I guess this is what you get. This isn't the first time nor will it be the last.

Back in 2012 Slovak lawmakers actually overrode the public's vote renaming a bridge after our very own Chuck Norris! Hee yaa! That would've been cool though right? In Austin Texas 2011, they tried to name the city's waste management service after the band Limp Bizkit's lead singer Fred Durst.

It gets even better though. Mountain Dew had a vote a while back to vote for a new flavor and a concert location for Taylor Swift. 4 Chan got involved and chose a school for the deaf as a location!! That's funny shit though I'm sorry but I'm laughing. That's com-a-dee!

So it looks like the Swedish government will honor the will of the people unlike Britain who rejected the Boaty McBoatface name. I guess we'll see what happens in the final outcome. Is it a mistake for these public votes? What do you think?
