It’s Finally For Sure!!!

I’ve been living on Vancouver Island for about eighteen years now. It’s been a dream, really. I’m able to call home, one of the most beautiful places in the world. Paradisiacal, really: I am immersed in awe and gratitude many times every day.

Part of living here is finding out all of the different things about here. There are so many mountains in so many distances that it’s almost overwhelming!! I’ve looked at maps and cross references to try and identify different peaks and ranges while I’m tooting around here. It’s been so enlightening.

There’s a particular range that I’ve been wondering about since having noticed it from Saysutshun Island a couple of years ago. And I’ve seen it from different angles and altitudes over the years and wondered just exactly where it was.

Just recently I was finally convinced that it was Mt. Arrowsmith, after a bunch of deliberation and even asking a few people more local than me.
But today I stood corrected.

I’m on Gabriola Island camping today and caught another glimpse of that range… from farther away with a little more perspective. Not only that, but from my vantage point, Mt. Arrowsmith is ALSO in my sight line so it’s definitely NOT it.

Note in the pic of my location, facing south/southwest (205degrees to be exact) the range I see in the pic is part of the Olympic Range wayyyyyyy across the island and the Juan de Fuca Strait in the ole USA. The A on the pic is the approximate location of Mt Arrowsmith, just to give indication.

It’s really awesome to finally have some clarity on that range I’ve been seeing for so long. There’s first time I saw it, I figured it was the Olympic Range… but I had convinced myself that it wasn’t.

There are so many other peaks that I see from my Island paradise, that still elude identity for me but it’s not like I’ve got plans to go anywhere else. Plenty of time to get better views…. Maybe even get a drone. Wouldn’t that be neat.
