This is one shoulder workout I have been avoiding for years now because of how much of the trapezius muscles it builds. I already have big traps and I have to be careful not to make my traps too big, it's not so beautiful if your traps are the biggest most pronounced muscles on your body.
But I'm doing the exercise now because I figured out a way to keep it from affecting the traps much. Just a minimal effect only. And the trick is to use a very wide grip. That is spread your hands wider. I figured this out through experimentation and I'm so happy I found it.
This is a very good exercise for building the shoulders, especially the rear part of the shoulders that is a little harder to build. So I'm happy I can now do it at will. Onwards!

STOPSmart tweak: the wide-grip hack — so many people give up on this move entirely when it starts to steal gains from their traps instead of building rear delts. Rear delts honestly are one of the hardest places to isolate so if this variation can do that without the trap dominance it is a great addition to any shoulder day. Have you seen any difference in shoulder width/roundness since putting it back in?
Yes, I've seen good difference in roundness and width. It's definitely working 😎
Good to hear - good confirmation that the wide-grip fix actually holds up in practice, not just theory. "Thanks for trying it out and letting me know. Any chance for a follow up post after you’ve run it a few more weeks?
Yes. I plan to start showing off results some more in future when I've gotten my body to a certain standard.
