In Cuba, is there a party without dancing?
Greetings friends of the #greenzone community. To continue sharing ideas about the customs and characteristics of Cuban women and men, today I'm discussing popular dances.

For Cubans, dance is like life itself. From the moment one is born in this archipelago, existence flows to the rhythm of music. And, if you haven't noticed, consider what the first teachings are for those who don't even know how to say "mom" yet.
You'll observe, unsurprised, that before mastering the use of a spoon, the smallest body already moves to the beat of salsa or the rhythm of the claves.
However, for the contemporaries of the cha cha chá and the bolero, that frenetic, independent, and jumpy way of dancing today still doesn't fully convince them.
Most of them still favor the dance of interlinked couples,on "a single tile" and preferably in a ballroom, as was exhibited decades ago (to be precise, a century ago now).
That modern way of having fun is merely another expression of how today's youth approach life:unprejudiced, vital, and unbound.
National artists also conceive their performances for a specific type of audience and venue.

Due to such spontaneous ways of dancing, dance traditions that have always been a source of pride and distinction for the inhabitants of this land have been lost.
In much of the world, people hold the idea—quite mistaken and absolute, by the way—that in Cuba, everyone masters the one, two, three for dancing son and salsa.
The fact of enjoying oneself to the rhythm of a can and a stick,as they say around here, doesn't guarantee doing it technically well or with the ability to teach it.
It's similar to when we imagine any Asian person is an expert in kung fu and various martial arts.Stereotypes formed over time.
But the truth is,asking most teenagers, here and now, to demonstrate the steps of the mambo and the danzón would be putting them through the wringer.

The issue isn't new. For some years now, those around fifty and older have been requesting in various forums the creation of spaces to dance in the style of the golden age of traditional Cuban music.
Even many tourists have asked for academies and ballrooms, outside of hotels, to learn to dance in the local way.
They have also watched, helplessly, as spaces designed for discos and, in recent years, for reggaeton, only increase.
Furthermore, some intellectuals have spoken out about revisiting whether the danzón should remain our national dance. Fewer and fewer people know its steps, like it, and cultivate it in compositions.
Although there are community projects where young couples are created who defend these cultural customs.
The existence of cultural centers has helped preserve traditional dances. In fact, I remember in my childhood their influence on my formation and knowledge of our identity traits.
Similarly, casino rueda competitions have been created, calls for orchestras to participate in the longest son. These are actions that endure, sometimes against the demands of the youth.

Initiatives to continue defending a rich artistic heritage, which influenced the creation of other rhythms in the world and constitutes hereditary values, an unparalleled patrimony, are still faint.

Placer saludarle.
Interesante
Muy certera tu opinión. Gracias por comentar, mi amiga. Abrazos
