Square Named in Honor of Captain Anselmo Belloso | Plaza en honor al Capitán Anselmo Belloso🎖
Hello, travelers.
I haven’t been able to take long trips like I usually do; instead, I’ve had to take short, unexpected strolls around the city of Maracaibo while attending follow-up appointments with my ophthalmologist due to my elevated intraocular pressure. But no matter how life turns out, you have to keep living—and I make sure to keep doing something I enjoy: a little local sightseeing.
On my way back from my appointment, I came across the Plaza del Capitán Anselmo Belloso, named after a Zulian hero who was born in Maracaibo and served in the military. He has not received the recognition he deserves, and little is said about him or his participation in numerous battles, including the Naval Battle of Lake Maracaibo. In the city, there is a well-known neighborhood and avenue named after him, as well as this public square.
Plaza del Capitán Anselmo Belloso is located on Avenida 3F, a quiet spot that can easily go unnoticed if you’re not paying attention. It’s a small but very well-maintained space; from across the street, a small brick railing marks the boundary of the plaza, adding a subtle touch of beauty.
Once I began walking through the plaza, I came across a marble pedestal with a white-painted bust of Belloso; on the base, a plaque with faded lettering bears his name, noting that it was erected in honor of this Zulian hero.
It features large trees and many shrubs that provide shade for visitors, as well as benches and uniquely styled lamps that illuminate the area at night. I like that it was very clean, and having spaces like this in the city helps us not only connect with its history and the main reason it was built, but also distracts us from whatever might be happening in our lives at the moment.

No he podido hacer viajes largos como acostumbro, en cambio he tenido que hacer recorridos cortos e inesperados por la ciudad de Maracaibo mientras acudo a citas de control con la oftalmologa por la elevación de mi presión ocular, pero sin importar como se ponga la vida hay que vivir, eso si, sin dejar de hacer algo que me gusta y es un poco de turismo local.
Mientras regresaba de mi cita, me encontré con la Plaza del Capitán Anselmo Belloso, un prócer Zuliano que nació en Maracaibo y fue parte del servicio militar que no ha recibido el mérito que se merece y que poco se habla de él y sus participaciones en numerosas batallas entre ellas la Batalla Naval del Lago de Maracaibo, en la ciudad hay un reconocido sector y avenida que llevan su nombre al igual que este espacio público.
La Plaza del Capitán Anselmo Belloso se encuentra ubicada en la Avenida 3F, un lugar poco concurrido y si vas distraído puede pasar desapercibida, es un espacio pequeño pero muy bien cuidado, desde el otro lado de la calle una pequeña baranda con algunos ladrillos delimita el lugar y dándole un sutil toque de belleza.
Una vez que empecé a caminar por la plaza, pude encontrarme con un pedestal en mármol con el busto pintado en blanco de Belloso, sobre la base una placa con letras desgastada tiene escrito su nombre haciendo constar que fue hecha en honor a éste prócer Zuliano.
Posee grandes árboles y muchos arbustos que le dan sombra a quiénes se acercan a visitarla, al igual que bancas y algunas lámparas con un estilo único para alumbrar por las noches, me gusta que estaba muy limpia y que contar con espacios así en la ciudad nos ayudan no solo a conectar con la historia y la razón principal por la que fue construida, sino que me ayudan a distraernos de aquello que podría estar pasándonos en el momento.
