Big-Ass Turtle
In my neighborhood there is a pretty large area that is left wild. It is a low area that floods often. This lowland comes to an end at my backyard. Because of this, it is not uncommon for snakes and turtle to wander up to our yard.
Recently, I had the crap scared out of me by a snake that was coiled up next to the hose reel by my patio. I needed to use the hose. The snake just happened to be the same color as the hose. I think you can see where this is headed. Well, I haven't screamed that loudly in a long time.
That was the lone snake that I have seen so far. In that same spirit, I've seen one turtle this summer as well. The turtle showed up for three days in a row before bidding farewell.
At first, I thought it was a dead goose laying in the grass. Upon closer inspection I realized it was just a big ass turtle covered in dried mud.
We don't usually get big turtles in this area. This was, by far, the biggest one I have ever seen. And the ugliest. Oops. I think it heard me.
That's the look of someone who has seen a lot in their life. It's times like this that I wish I knew what an animal was thinking. The lives of animals are basically one of routine. However, every now and then, they choose to deviate from that.
This turtle has been around a long time. Why did it decide to visit my yard for three days? Do animals go on vacation? Did it check off another location from its bucket list? I guess I'll never know.
Or, maybe it was on the lam. Does this look like the face of innocence? I think not.
Yeesh! They say you can't put lipstick on a pig. Let's see if you can put it on a turtle?
