Is It Normal?
I've published two posts now with Is It Normal? themes. The inspiration for these themes originated in an assignment for my homeopathic studies. For that exercise, we students were tasked with coming up with completions to the phrase "is it normal" for the rest of us to determine whether or not the conditions were pathological - did the conditions need treatment, or could they be healthily tolerated?
In the comment sections on my previous posts, most readers seemed to interpret "normal" as meaning "conventional." The question then becomes, which of our conventional behaviors are, in fact, pathological? Would the world be healthier if we could cure humans of these conditions?
Which of the conditions below do you consider to be pathological - in need treatment - or healthy?
is it normal
to feel alone
in a room full of people?

is it normal
to think dandelions
are ugly?

is it normal
to have full faith
without expectations?

is it normal
to think your government
is your friend?

is it normal
to be enchanted
by a sales pitch?

is it normal
to sign contracts
for life?

is it normal
to be dazzled
by politicians?

is it normal
to have a face that cries out
for a fist in it?
Two of these came to me while I was in my garden. One is a translation of a German word. The remaining five are, in my opinion, truly pathological, and would be found in a homeopathic repertory under the rubric DELUSIONAL.
Prizes await those who can correctly identify which of my little poems fit those bills. In other words, do you think like me?

As I read along, I had opinions about some of those things..... and then I saw it was a test and I no longer had opinions.
😂
I ask... Is it Ethical? "Normal" is so... Vague.
I grasp that these questions are not about Ethics, per se, but maybe a better question would be, "Is it healthy?"
The first one, I would say, it is a poor choice to feel lonely. We choose how We feel...
Choosing to Depress (article): https://peakd.com/@amaterasusolar/choosing-to-depress
Yes the question is are these things healthy. Do they make life difficult for the sufferer or those around him/her.
Now that I am learning homeopathy, I disagree that we choose how we feel. Much of our mental state can be pathological, and is treatable. Feeling alienated is one of them. This stuff works much much better than therapy. We can even treat the urge to mutilate the body in order to feel more comfortable in it, a practice that is very much in vogue these days. #1 is most definitely not healthy or normal if you ask me.
ha! It's not a test! A fun topic for discussion I had hoped.
I don't know what's normal. I think I know what's healthy, and it probably isn't this:
is it normal
to have a face that cries out
for a fist in it?
I laughed out loud at that one.
I'm sure I don't think like you, but I do like you :)))
If we could cure people of conditions numbers 3-7, I think the world would certainly be healthier. I probably think in a similar way to you that, to quote Miss Jane from one of my favourite movies Mr. Deeds goes to town (1936), "everyone's pixilated except us'
I did not say there is nothing that makes Our choice of feelings easier to manage. Just that, in the end, We do make the choice. Did You read My article?
Brilliant.
I’m thinking the five that are pathological are 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8. 2 feels like a subjective human variance, 3 sounds like grace. I love how you're using poetry this way, very creative!
Well done! I came to #3 while in my garden and I was feeling blessed even though my carrot harvest was scanty. I'm delighted that you see it as you have. And thank you for thinking I've used poetry creatively! Big prizes coming your way, once I figure out what the prizes will be. haha either hp or hp.
Likewise! Too few of us allow differences of opinion among those we love. I've learned to keep my mouth shut in many instances because my views are considered to be abnormal in certain circles, especially political ones of either 'side.'
I'm glad I left the best (in my opinion) for last if it left you with a smile.
ding ding ding ding! I'll have to find that movie somewhere. I'm sure I'll like it too. From 1936?! Was pixelation a thing back then?
Not yet! I will.
I look forward to Your thoughts!
No, but pixilation was!
Pixilated is an adjective that generally describes a person or behavior that is amusingly eccentric, whimsical, or somewhat insane and confused. It was commonly used to describe someone who behaves in a mildly crazy, unconventional way. Nowadays, the term has lost its popularity and is rarely used.

I have that issue with one member of my extended family. I have to avoid certain topics because these become flashpoints.
Thanks!
haha right off the bat (25 mins), a Mr Hallor has a face that cries out for a fist in it!
Thank you! No worries about the prize though, reading the post was reward enough. It's this kind of content that reminds me why I stay here.
Shucks! I am verklempt. Thank you!
My pleasure, @owasco!
Delusional: 4,5,and 7 for sure. #3 and #6 are an "it depends" thing.
#1 happens sometimes, but I don't think it requires treatment, unless it's ongoing.
#2 is strictly an opinion.
#8 doesn't make sense to me, so I can't say. If someone is born with a certain kind of face that some people find offensive, it's not their fault. On the other hand,if someone who goes around thinking certain faces need a fist inserted into them, that's pathological.
