To the Moon, a freewrite

I could use a lift to the moon and back
on Ralph Cramdens fist,
or wait, not Ralph's -
was it Ralph's?
Do I have severe memory loss?
The kind that needs treatment?
The kind that is pathological not just my usual spacey self who has smoked too much dope in her lifetime and could probably benefit from a few doses of homeopathic Cannabis indica to wipe all that spaciness and wasted time away?
The question is, do I really want to cure myself of this spaciness? It can be very pleasant, after all, just sitting on the porch watching the leaves wave around, wondering how the sun gets through the leaf to its underside so that the very bottoms of the leaves will glow to my eyes. It's quite pretty that leaf, those leaves, and I can get absolutely enmeshed with them, send out my chi to them so we are all enveloped by plasma, no technology needed. Much better than bulbs burning the skin, don't you think? Just me, the cats, the dogs, the plants and the leaves allowing whatever it is that turns the world to keep turning the little bits of our worlds.
This is my entry to @mariannewest's daily freewrite challenge. Today's prompt is I need a lift.
I'm trying to get back into freewriting more regularly. It can be so exhiliarating! Makes me wanna get up off my derriere and do something!
I used Eggtimer while I madly wrote, then made proofreading corrections only. I had fun! It started off as a poem, morphed into prose, then ended with bits of a poem I wrote many years ago. That poem went something like this:
Skim this lake
with the wingtip of your tongue
dart, turn, skip, twist, glide.
then rest with me here for a bit
so our worlds can turn
without my having to push mine.
Thank you for reading!

I guess the question isn’t whether you should cure yourself of the spaciness, but whether every kind of wandering needs to be cured at all. There’s something whimsical about being able to sit still pretty long to notice the underside of a leaf glowing in the sun, to feel connected to the animals, the plants, and all the tiny things that keep the world moving.
Now of course, there’s a difference between losing yourself in the moment and losing pieces of yourself altogether. But perhaps not every forgotten thought is a symptom, and not every wandering mind is a broken one. It could simply be a mind that refuses to walk in a straight line.
PS: think I’m being too serious with the reply. Don’t mind me, I like to think too deeply sometimes.
Lovely use of the prompt btw<3
I love this reply! It is poetry. Thank you for it.
You’re welcome ☺️
I really enjoyed reading this! I, too, have enjoyed my share of cannabis throughout the years (as you could probably surmise). These days the most I'll do is half a 10mg gummy in the evenings. I find life more enjoyable with it although I do take regular breaks from time-to-time to cleanse. I've noticed I dream so much more during those cleansing periods.
P.S. So glad you're writing again. : )
I'm still a smoker; it assuages my hankering for a cigarette, which I still long for 45 years after my last drag!
I can't seem to break the idea that I am more creative when I am high. It's probably bunk. I know for sure I am less productive. Spacey! That was my childhood nickname, long before I first got high. Adding chemically to that natural condition of mine is probably ill advised.
I would never guess you indulge in any kind of mind-altering substance, you seem so clear-headed and productive. How's the new house coming along? Are you happy there?
We'll see if I keep it up. Freewriting for five minutes is one thing. Cleaning it up, finding an image, title, tags, photo credits and making sure it's perfect (I don't like to edit once it's published) takes a lot more time! Even a five minute freewrite sucks up almost half an hour of my day.
I don't think the enhanced creativity is a figment of your imagination. It certainly does that for me, as well as getting me to think in different ways. The reduced productivity can definitely be a thing. I have it dialed in pretty well. With 5mg I don't feel that "hang over" lethargy in the morning but still experience the benefits. Lol, maybe you should try a good Sativa. I've sworn it off since I mistakenly took 100mg in Montreal a few years ago.
Not bad! I'm actually considering taking a little break for a while.
That's because I have it pretty well dialed-in I think. I never partake during the work day, only at night. The house is finished, nearly! Overall I'm happy but we have data centers being built about ten miles away. I wish we would have moved further out now but we've put so much work into this house we can't imagine pulling up roots again so soon.
hahaha! The first time I did an edible was a bit of home made stuff my daughter had left in cheesecloth at my home. I took what I thought was a tiny bit, nice and green. Since nothing had happened a good hour later, I took it again, a bit more this time. In short order, I was fairly convinced I was having a stroke. I could not go the the ER because that would leave my invalid son home alone, so I got in bed and prayed. Hours later, I could function again. I learned my lesson. Edibles are not my thing. I did try them for sleep for a few months, but I found the next day I was impaired energy-wise, so I discontinued that. I remember that I liked my dreams though. Boy is this conversation making me want to go have a hit or two.
What is the problem with data centers? Folks are resisting them robustly around here; good old hillbillies don't like progress of that sort, although windmills and solar farms proliferate. 5G towers. Those all came in under cover of night, it seems.
Ten miles from something undesirable seems like a good distance. My fear is 5G towers nearby.
yeah I've been doing that. I had to in order to do my homeopathic studies. Those will be over in December. I might pick up again then. The problem with taking a break is starting up again. You seem to have been quite active of late, no?
You can "get into the weeds" pretty quickly with edibles. I won't do the homemade ones anymore. I tried THC oil in Montreal in 2023 and misread the dosage. I meant to take 10mg but ended up take over 100mg. I was high for a day and a half and thought my heart would beat out of my chest. We had tickets to the laser light show at the Notre Dame basilica but I only made it as far as the courtyard out front before I sat on the bench and almost fell asleep (which was weird because my heart was racing). I still don't know how I made it back to the Airbnb. My brother thought he'd have to call an ambulance. That was character-building to be sure. Lol.
Wow, you're almost done already?! My SIL got her certification years ago and it was pretty intense from what she told us. Super active here lately but I, increasingly, feel like I'm shouting into the wilderness. This always happens when the token price goes lower, the engagement tapers off. This year might be it for me, it's been a decent decade-long run!
Yes I remember my heart racing, too. It was horrible. 100mg! High for a day and a half! That sounds like torture to me. A great many people go to ERs because of edibles, where they do nothing but let the patient sleep it off. Best not to mess with them unless you are sure of the dose, or love going to emergency rooms.
The problem with data centers is water pollution (heavy metals/microplastics) and higher energy bills for us. Cell towers are a huge concern!
I'm still hoping for a resurgence. So many of the accounts I loved are gone! Hey, do you know what is going on with Lizelle?
It was horrendous! I guess it was more like a day...I took the THC oil around 5pm and was just beginning to feel normal later the next afternoon. I have a greater respect for it now. Lol.
Me too. I miss so many people who used to write here! My blogs are beginning to feel more like a personal journal, which is okay too I guess. I think the trend has moved away from my style of writing. Lizelle is, sadly, not doing well. I don't know all of the specifics but it sounds as if she's bed-ridden. I'm hoping she recovers. She is such a lovely soul!
I feared even worse. Thanks for that info. Yes, she is a treasure, a hive treasure.
Ah. Heavy metals bad, especially injected - increase of both ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes I just learned. Higher energy bills though - why would your bills be higher?
My studies will have been for more than two years and have been grueling, but very much worth it. Your SIL was probably classically trained, which I understand is a three year endeavor.
I gotta head out to pick some beans! I have quite a crop of those this year, from one 8 foot row. I have frozen a lot, and hope to pressure can some today. Off to the garden with me! Nice talking to you!
Most municipalities pass on a portion of the data centers’ power usage to the citizens nearby through higher rates for “peak usage.”
Thanks, it was great catching up. Enjoy the garden!
In my opinion you are perfectly spacey, so no cure needed!
Oh good. Whew!
Eric, noooo, this year might be it for you - and you've been at Hive ten years? How is that possible?? Has it been that long?
Even you, a published and renowned poet with an audience, feel like you're shouting into the wilderness?
I'm guilty of falling off the face of the earth (repeatedly!).
Engagement tapers off.
If you do leave Hive and find some other venue, please let me know! @owasco has my email address.
This is another GREAT POST, @owasco, and I am 23 days late finding it.
A few doses of homeopathic Cannabis indica -- let me know if it works!
Lizelle!
@honeydue is still around, right?
How is Marianne West??
I'm so far behind.
So many good people.
Wanderin' Rose, all the Silver Bloggers, all the groups -
Seems like everyone is over at TikTok.
(Not me.)
Or Threads, or -
How active is the block chain, still?
Hi Carol, I've been seriously considering taking a break for a while but it's proven to be so hard to leave. I began on Steemit in July of 2016, presented at the first couple SteemFests, and then made the transition to Hive during the hardfork. It's hard to believe a decade has passed by so quickly. Genuine engagement for me has been dwindling for the past few years here, that could be because of the bear market and decreasing payouts. People usually leave during those periods. I also sometimes think tastes have changed and readers here have moved on from my kind of writing. If I do decide to take a long break or move on I'll be sure to let you all know! I hope you've been well and have enjoyed summer!
Really? Tic tok? all those people are there? It's not for me. I don't want the influence of mainstream thought in my consciousness. I miss all those.
Marianne posts often on blurt. She doesn't engage that I know of, just posts. I don't know why she is not longer active here. Those were the days, weren't they? You, she, wonderwop, fitnfun, deirdy, all those.
Many of the missing pop in now and then, just as you do.
I'm so sorry I haven't responded to your email properly! That computer is a pain to use, so I am way behind on proton messages. I also want to tell you so much I can't find the time!
Hey. I'm here. You're here.
I just got back from Tennessee, where I am madly trying to do the work that house needs before I arrive with my animals in December or so. Lots to do, and I haven't been making the best decisions. I have to be more mindful, ask more information from the people who are doing the work.
Ohhh I've been wondering and checking her blog for weeks now. I hope she pulls through, she's wonderful.
I'm hoping for the best too. This place wouldn't be the same without her. She was hoping to travel here to visit her nephew, who lives just a few miles away from us. I was going to take her out to lunch and give her a ride in my Tesla.
