In the ancient times, people believed that the Earth was flat. And who was the first person to think that the Earth is round? Yes, this guy.

And yes, it's Christopoher Columbus.

And why did he think so? Here's why

**When boats sailed, and you look at them from a distance, you see the bottom of the boat sinking and going down leaving the top.**

Columbus observed this and while time passes, people discovered that in the ancient times, people used to believe that the Earth is flat. Some scientist tried this for one more time after Columbus did. Guess what, same results!

There may be other reasons why Columbus did believe that the Earth was round.
