Direct from the FAQs of Steemit:
"Can I earn digital tokens for commenting?
Yes, comments that are upvoted can earn rewards just like posts!"
Of course, you should say something besides "upvote me" if you expect someone to do it. Something that actually shows you read their comment/post.
