"How Far I’ll Go" from Moana connects beautifully with this week’s theme, Mermaid. In many mermaid movies, the mermaid characters are often restricted by their parents to a safe part of the ocean, warned not to venture into the deeper, darker areas where danger is said to dwell. However, the curious ones, the bold and adventurous mermaids, always feel drawn to explore beyond those limits.

This same feeling is captured in the song. The lyrics speak of someone who tries to live up to expectations, choosing safety, yet deep down, she feels a powerful calling from the sea, a desire to break free, to explore, and to discover a new path. Even though she is surrounded by love, family, and beauty, there’s an inner voice pushing her toward something more. It’s a song about freedom, self-discovery, and the strength to go beyond what you’ve always known.
