Planning next travel : NYC on August - suggestions please!

My husband and I planned to go in NYC from August 12 to 20th, we already booked the flight and the hotel.
Now we are deciding what to visit in the Big Apple.

We are sure about the choise some of the museums or buildings and the most important attractions of the city, and for some of them we have already bought the city pass.

Anyway, we will also love to visit some places of the city that is not reported in the tourist guides, to really enter into the spirit of this city.

We are from Italy and neither of us was never been in US before.

For this reason, I'm asking you to you "steemit people" maybe located in NYC or great connoisseur of this city:
please, suggest to us hiden places to visit, but also some restaurants to taste foods speciality , but also some agreeable places in sourroundings easy reaching.
