Well written. There's a brilliant comedian that tackles this very subject.....without wearing pants! Adrienne Truscott delivers some truths about rape and challenges the thinking around rape and the culture that still supports it. With any form of free speech or expression there's an unwritten rule of responsibility that goes along with it and, as you allude to, any asshole can make a rape joke. The true artist can get you to challenge your thinking and level of consciousness around it.

Ok I finally had a minute to sit and unpack this one.

Now, let's look at the English word "rape". I don't look at it as silovanje serbian word for rape.

In Canada rape and sexual assult are the only two phrases we use. Rape being the stronger of the two phrases to use. So when you come to Canada just know that the word "Rape" is our loaded word that is all about sexual assult.

Just encase people forgot the definition of rape, I will put it here so we are all clear on our definitions.

Rape: unlawful sexual activity and usually sexual intercourse carried out forcibly or under threat of injury against the will usually of a female or with a person who is beneath a certain age or incapable of valid consent

Alright now we are on the same page I guess about the definition of rape- Wouldn't want any Serbian tourist saying shit like. "Must of been lost in translation, officers." Where the guy goes "But sir - I am a Serbian and I didn't know about the rape thing, cause it is different in my country. Our rape is just the brutal rape instead of the fluffy rape stuff."

I've never actually heard a stand-up comedian use a rape joke but that's probably because I'm not really a fan of stand-up and I don't watch it much.

Well go to a couple comedy shows in seattle for spell and you might find you sit through a lot of rape jokes.

Freedom of speech is important as you said, so if some comedian want's to crack jokes about rape, holocaust, niggers, hook nosed Jews, muslim goat fuckers or whatever, so what?

Exactly, so what. I wasn't stopping anyone. By using the freedom of speech that I have the privilage of, I voiced my dislike of most poorly told jokes about rape.

I have been telling rape jokes for the last couple days and they have been halariouse. I have a friend that has been telling me some pretty good rape jokes too and we have been having a rape-y gay ol time over here with all the jokes.

Just because they have freedom of speech doesn't mean the jokes good. So you missed the point of the article. It wasn't about rape jokes it was about a poorly told rape joke, for the sake of being anti PC. I like a good rape joke. This whole article was about my bias for good rape jokes and why I find some rape jokes not so funny. I was giving comedians an insight into why I think it might not be funny.

That guy can be "edgy" on the stage but be the nicest person in the world in real life.

Somewhere a long the line, did I make a snap judgement about someone's character in the article? Did I finger someone as a rapist somewhere and I didn't know it? I really tried to make it about telling a good joke.

Or you would prefer Bill Cosby's clean comedy and you know what happened with that guy.

Ok this is kinda the point that made me go like "wtf?"

So everybody who does clean comedy is a rapist now? WOW! I mean I thought I was touchy about rape-y vibes but you are straight up all. "Clean comedy and comedians that practice it are rapists!" Holy shit dude! The left really got inside you there fellah. As someone who has partaken in clean comedy I am offended that you think I a rapist @beograd.

Now here's some virtue signalling. I can say the dumbest, racist, sexist, most insulting things ever but I don't actually think those things. I am still the guy who buys food for homeless people whenever I have possibility to do so no matter that I'm piss poor.
I even share my food with cats and dogs for fuck's sake. Should I go on national television and tell the whole world every time I help someone? Who is helping more, me or some celebrity who bitches about global warming and poverty in Africa and then goes back in their 20 million dollar mansion.

I feel like you tangented hard here and I think it is because you felt guilty. You felt guilty because you said a dumb thing that you think offended me and you want to be friends. What offends me is that I can't laugh about it and also talk seriously about it.
Every time I bring up rape if you are going to feel like I am calling you a rapist, things are gonna get awkward in here.

What I'm trying to say is that words don't matter, fuck the words. What matters is what you actually think and more important what you actually do.

Yeah and what I am saying is I like a well told joke. Jokes matter to me, well constructed jokes. I am going to talk about humour because humour should be talked about if that is what we are interested in.

The putting words in your mouth was a joke part, maybe hard to see that in English. But your statement in English also felt like you were putting words in my mouth, so I was sharing the sentiment humorously.

Me and the person in question jokeing about rape both have close family members that are rape victims. The jokes we shared had some semblance of deeper comedy because it talked about the issues seriously. We really talked about the issues of rape, rape culture and we talked about the scandals surrounding rape too.

If it wasn't for our shared rape jokes together I probably may not have responded to you. So you can thank a "good" rape joke for whatever friendship happens between us.

So your right I don't care about the nice guy behind the rape joke. Am I supposed to know his life story now? All he is presenting me is the rape joke. I judge him on the quality of the rape joke and if it makes me laugh or not.

I can't help that I like intelligence. I can't help that if you say stupid things that I may make you feel awkward about them. That is me and I am not changing for others either.

My posts will always talk about the issues. So we can joke about rape but don't expect me to just take it laying down.

I just want to talk about the real issues and I ain't changing. I never asked others to change either. All I can do is put out my opinions and hope that if people want to be my friend and hang around me that they can find some type of semblance of respect for my likes and dislikes.

If you're stick is all about stupid rape jokes then we are probably going to have problems because I honestly would rather not be friends with that guy that tells stupid rape jokes all the time.

Just like I don't like biking, I don't have a lot of cycling buddies because I don't like bikes. Ya know? Probably the same for rape-y vibe comedians. Just not the same interests.

I am sure people who use a bike everyday are nice people. Probably not going to like cycling anymore because they are my friend.
