The bumblebee is one of the most distinctive insects with a large, furry black body with yellow banding. Bumblebees can most commonly be found congregating around flowering plants as they consume nectar and pollen.

Bumblebees are social insects who live in colonies of up to two hundred insects. The queen of the colony will hibernate during the winter and emerge every spring to create a suitable nest, normally in abandoned mouse holes or similar areas. 

The queen produces eggs which hatch into sterile female worker bees.   

  Black garden ant ( Insect )

  Garden ants are black or dark brown insects which are known for nesting in soil, lawns at the bases of walls and under flat stones. Ants are social insects who live and work together in large colonies which are largely made up of worker ants which are sterile females.

Ants are known for their voracious and varied appetite and they seem to be capable of digesting almost anything. However, the ant’s favourite food appears to be the nectar secreted by aphids.

It is quite common to see garden ants ‘stroking’ aphids in order to force them to secrete nectar.
