I actually never watched any Ultraman movie... I heard about the games more, but I'm not sure if I should play any of these games, not knowing the lore.

Yes, that's okay. The difference is because this film is full CGI, it doesn't have people wearing Ultraman clothes.
It felt realistic though... Technology has come a long way, I guess.
