"Tarsius Animals Unique and Rare"

Tarsiers (including Tarsius tarsier and Tarsius pumilus) are unique and rare animals. These small primates are often referred to as the smallest monkeys in the world, though these animals are not monkeys. There are at least 9 types of Tarsius in the world. 2 species are in the Philippines while the remaining 7 species are found in Sulawesi Indonesia. The best known are the two types found in Indonesia namely Tarsius tarsier (Ghost Beast / Monkey Ghost) and Tarsius pumilus (tarsius dwarf, small krabuku or Pygmy tarsier). All types of tarsiers include rare and protected animals in Indonesia. The name Tarsius is based on the special physical features of their body, the elongated tarsal bone, which forms their ankles so they can jump as far as 3 meters (nearly 10 feet) from one tree to another. Tarsius also has a long tail that is not hairy, except at the edges. Each of the hands and feet of this animal has five long fingers. These fingers have nails, except the second and third fingers that have claws.
