Probability question

In a rare event - like picking up a hitchhiker- and them robbing you. Does the frequency of picking up hitchhikers increase the probability of being robbed?

It's not clear to me.

A gun with one in the chamber is easier, each pull of the trigger increases the likelyhood of it firing. However, the hitchhiker question has many more variables.
