Beautiful caterpillars

For many people, caterpillars are adorable little insects, funny, creatures that chew the leaves and then turn into beautiful butterflies. At first glance they look like harmless creatures. Actually, some look like beautiful artwork found in nature.
But make no mistake, many also worms that are harmful to humans. There are even some pretty lethal. Our realms are even filled with scary-looking worms that can hurt us.
A number of caterpillars have developed a defense system to ward off predators, use poisonous spines on their backs to defend themselves, and hurt those who are too close to them. Mongabay has collected some dangerous worms, and be sure to keep your distance if you meet them.
