Sihanoukville

As you may notice in my steemit travels last year, Sihanoukville has a different and very beautiful look and feel than most Cambodian towns.
There is no Colonial architecture or ancient pagodas around.
The port city in the late 50th, the town is much newer, more urban and cosmopolitan than most Cambodian provincial cities.

The name "Sihanouk" is derived from Sanskrit through two Pali words: Siha (lion), and Hanu (jaws). Preah Krong mean the city of holy or honorable Sihanouk. That’s why you see the lions statue made in 1996.

The history of Sihanoukville goes back far in 1955 when the area was known as Kampong Som. At that time French/Cambodian cut a base camp into the unoccupied jungle in the area that is now known as ‘Hawai Beach.’

In 1960 the town renamed in honour of former king Norodom Sihanouk.
Sihanoukville is in the south of Cambodia.
